Bad Buy

Hoped that this item would benefit my husband’s hearing but it was a terrible purchase. Lots of static and irratic sound.

I guess it does what I paid for (glad it wasn’t too much). If you touch the little unit (with your hand or your clothing or a piece of paper or yarn) there is way too much noise and we haven’t figured out how to keep it “quiet”! My mother is using it when she is at church and when trying to watch TV and is using her cellphone case to hold it so nothing touches it. She has enjoyed being able to have the TV sound down lower and it has been nice for her to hear at church again.

this product doesn’t work. the microphone in the base unit creates too much feedback and unless the microphone/base unit is perfectly still all that is heard is the shuffeling of base unit moving. I would like to return the unit.
Forget it!

-It does not work as advertised
-Too much static to hear anything you’d actually be interested in hearing
-Static and background noises drown out the TV
Don’t waste your money, this is a bad product.
Not worth the postage

The Sonic Earz Sound Amplifier is NOT the product it claims to be. It does amplify sound, but it is the sound of it rubbing your pocket, or you touching it…not voices or the TV. I am very disappointed.
stay away

alot of backround noise, seems to amplify high frequency better (more). Batteries need replacing once a day. headphone jack were very touchy from the start and now a week later the whole thing does not work at all.
very dissappointing.

This product has a lot of feedback, in fact all you hear mostly is your fingers on the case. Sound is poor quality. I am surprised that Bell & Howell put their name on this product. The ear buds also hurt your ears( at least they did mine!). This is money wasted on a sub-standard product. Amazon’s quality control should check these products before they allow them to be sold. I like Amazon but they goofed up this time!
Sucks!

You can only hear the voices near you but not tv. If you are one feet from tv, it may work.
Useless
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This product did not work worth a darn. All you could hear through the ear buds was the rustling of your fingers on the case. External sounds or speech were not amplified. Threw it away immediately. Ripped off.

This is a great product for someone who is having hearing difficulty. I would highly recommend it.

Good for TV watching quietly. For the price and for occassional use, it can be a good product. But if you talk even slightly, you hear it loudly in your ears. That can be somewhat annoying unless you can always remember to take earphone off and then talk.
Absolutely usless.

Terrible. Sound was loud, clarity not acceptable. Sorry I boutht it. I returned it but haven’t got any credit or reply.

It worked. I wouldn’t say you could hear someone whisper at 30 feet, but it made the ambient noise much louder.
Item just as described; quick resolution to shipping trouble
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
Product is fine and the real appreciation goes to the distributor, who took a personal interest into seeing that the shipping problem with the post office became resolved quickly. When the item did arrive, everything the distributor said was true and the post office had made the blunder entirely.

Amplifier seemed to work when it arrived but broke within one day when it came near a vibrating object. Definitely a good idea but built perhaps a little to light for routine use.

I bought this unit for litening to TV. Even sitting right in front of tv all I can hear is back ground noise. It didn’t work at all for me.
good product
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
This product works great to amplify television or stereo but it also picks up amplified background sound. You hear others taking and yourself talking. Someone walking or sneezing is very loud. Maybe if you used noise cancelling headphones it would work better. For the purpose of amplifying tv it does its job.
Didn’t work “As Advertised On TV”!

How hard is it to make a transistor amplifier?
Apparently it’s beyond B&H. The microphone
B&H chose for the input is sooo short range
that the only sound amplified was my breathing,
and the occasional sound of my hand/arm touching
the unit.
At only 10 feet from the TV at ‘normal volume’,
I heard the TV better without this device than
with it.
I returned it immediately to the vendor for credit.
If only it met my ‘hard of hearing’ mother’s need… sigh.
Ears watch out!

Amplifies EVERYTHING!!! Means even the cable as it swishes against your clothing or when cable touches your face.
Audio not clear, sounds like listening through jar.
DON’T BOTHER!!

THE ONLY WAY THIS THING WORKS IS IF IT IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SOUND. IF MY FATHER HAS TO SIT A FOOT AWAY FROM THE TV FOR IT TO WORK, WHAT’S THE USE OF IT. PLEASE DON’T WASTE THE MONEY LIKE I DID!!
please don’t buy sonic earz
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Regarding Sonic Earz Personal Sound Amplifier By Bell and Howell, please don’t waste your money. I have never had a problem with any products or books I’ve purchased through Amazon. The only thing this product did was amplify noise from the sound from brushing against clothing. After reading some of the positive reviews for this product, I even tested out the product to better hear the birds. That is something I had no intention of using it for, but since that worked for someone, I gave it a try. No,no sound. I could hear the birds without using this product, but couldn’t hear the birds with it. Honestly, this product doesn’t work at all. Possibly, I received a used or damaged item. I purchased a new item. However, I’m not sure if it wasn’t used. The plastic package that usually is hard to open, even with scissors; I could easily open it just by pulling it apart. The earplugs are marked “L” and “R”. Well, no sound at all from the “R” plug. Didn’t matter since the product doesn’t work. Since this product can’t be returned, PLEASE DO NOT BUY IT. Chances are some work (per the positive reviews); however, since some do not work (per bad reviews), it is not worth the chance that you may get a damaged product like I did. Even, if the product could be returned (I did call and ask and know it can’t be returned. understandable since earplugs are part of the package), it wouldn’t be worth it considering what I paid originally for shipping and adding my shipping cost. Another thing regarding shipping charge for this product, double the price I usually pay for such a light-weight item. Complete waste of money.

As advertised

Have only had the opportunity to try it out. It appears to operate as it advertises.
A total wast of money!
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
The Sonic Earz does not perform as stated. All you hear is static, you cannot hear people “up to 60 feet away”. In fact, you can’thear them a foot away. Forget the movies, TV or any place/situation you may be in. In fact, you call talk into it and you still won’t hear anything. SAVE YOUR MONEY!
Hear Hear!

Ordered this and it came right away. Now my elderly mother doesn’t have to blast the TV to hear it and everybody is much happier! Don’t forget to get those little tiny batteries…it uses them, not the popular sized ones.
Works Fine for me. Make sure to set Volume at middle. Not too low or too high.
Rating:5 out of 5 stars
This is a handy little item for people who have trouble hearing other people in small groups. I put it on the table in front of me at a recent meeting of about 7 people who were sitting in a circle. I could hear everyone, even the “whisperers. The sound is a little hollow, like being in a large, empty room, but for my purpose it did just fine. It is a great little helper until you are ready to make the big investment in hearing aids.
I tried it while watching TV; it did not work as well, but it did help me hear two soft speakers in a therapy session. All in all, a good investment.
Don’t bother
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Don’t bother. A waste of money. Tinny sound, can not touch it, interfernce sound.
Good for TV watching.
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
Non-directional microphone tends to amplify closest and loudest sounds. This is a decent amplifier for watching TV in a somewhat quiet room. Voices are lost to background noises in restaurant’s and businesses. In the living room EARZ do help hear conversation.
A good Value
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
This product performs as intended. Battery life is certainly acceptable too. If you think your hearing is going down hill and want an inexpensive way to judge how far…buy this and see it your quality of life improves? You just might giveup vanity and buy a real hearing aid. A good value at $15.00.
